The Courier Mail has reported Windlab will move forward with plans to develop 700 MW wind farm near Hughenden which would be one of Australia's largest renewable energy projects.

The progress of the wind farm development is a result of the CopperString $1.5 BILLION powerline project moving to the final development stage after securing agreements with major energy users.

The North West minerals province has made a significant step towards a more secure future with the announcement the proposed CopperString project has entered into agreements with a number of major energy users as reported by The North West Star.

Federal Member for Kennedy Bob Katter, yesterday joined Federal Treasurer Wayne Swan in welcoming the announcement and praising the "ground breaking development".

The Townsville Bulletin reports CopperString has taken a major step forward with proponents declaring they have the major end users on board to make the scheme viable.

CopperString founder and director John O'Brien said "We have succeeded in negotiating agreements with sufficient numbers of the large energy users in the north-west to give us confidence to move the CopperString project forward and start to go full-steam ahead towards financial close (and) construction of the project,".

Kennedy Wind Farm, Queensland's largest renewable energy project, has welcomed the news that CopperString, the high voltage powerline that will link Townsville to Mt Isa, is moving ahead.

Major users of the Mt Isa Mining community recently reached agreement with CopperString, and the project is now progressing to the final stages of development including contract negotiation, design and approval.
