Acting Prime Minister Wayne Swan met with Windlab representatives to learn more about the Kennedy Wind Farm on Saturday. Mr Swan and Minister Joe Ludwig were in Townsville to discuss the Clean Energy Corridor – which will allow Kennedy to connect to the National Electricity Grid. The Member of Parliament for the seat of Kennedy Bob Katter was the driving force behind the seminar which brought together community leaders, clean energy generators and electricity users.
“We thank the government for its supportive stance for the Clean Energy Corridor and the Kennedy Wind Farm” said GM of Australian operations Richard Mackie. “We believe this project can deliver affordable clean electricity from a site with a suitable environment and compatible land use”. Windlab is currently focused on feasibility work and community negotiations.
The Kennedy Project is located north of Hughenden, Queensland. It is adjacent to the CopperString Project which is a high voltage power line that is proposed to connect Townsville and the major mining precinct of Mt Isa. Windlab is a foundation customer of the line, which together with other clean generation makes up the Clean Energy Corridor.
